The incident took place just after 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 10, in front of a home on Dwight Street, reported Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison.

The men were reportedly working on a sewer line and were in a trench about 10-feet deep when it collapsed.

One person was rescued and rushed to a local hospital for treatment, the Mayor said on Facebook.

The second worker was rescued by first responders using excavation tools supplied by Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp.

"Victim 2 is free. Good work done by all," Rolison said on Facebook.

The second man was freed around 4:30 p.m. There was no word on his condition.
